Obituary

Francis "Frank" Steiner IV, 41, of Ontonagon passed away Friday, August 3, 2012 in Connecticut.

He was born August 23, 1970 in Arlington Heights, IL to Francis "Frank" Steiner III and Barb Lehto. He moved to the area in 1980 and graduated from OAHS with the Class of 1988. Following graduation, Frank joined the United States Marine Corps and participated in Operation Desert Storm in 1991, serving with the 2nd Light Armored Infantry Battalion, 2nd Marine Division as a TOW Gunner. While under heavy artillery and small arms fire, Frank was responsible for the destruction of 4 enemy tanks, 2 enemy trucks, 1 enemy BTR and 1 enemy bunker. During Operation Desert Storm, Frank was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged from the Marines in 1992.

On August 19, 1995, Frank was married to Brandi Gentiline. Together they had two children, Darien and Dylan Steiner.

Frank was very active in the Marine Corps League, and VFW, and was a Sr. Vice Commander for the Military Order of the Purple Heart #789. He also participated in the Honor Guard for the funerals of veterans. Frank loved being outdoors, going on vacation, and spending time with family and friends. He was known for helping anyone who needed assistance. Frank was very loved and will be missed by friends and family.

Frank is survived by his wife, Brandi; children, Darien and Dylan; father, Frank Steiner III; mother, Barb Ernest; brothers, Jeff Steiner and Mike Ernest; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

A Memorial Service for Frank will be held Friday, August 10, 2012 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ontonagon, with Pastor Howard Neider officiating. Friends may gather from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The Ontonagon County Veterans Association will present Military Honors immediately before the service.
