Gary John "Nonny" Alapert 45 of Mass City passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on December 23, 2007 at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital.

He was born August 1, 1962 to Norman & Marie (Kaarto) Alapert. Nonny graduated in 1981 from Ontonagon High School. After graduation, he moved to Lower Michigan and worked in the construction industry hanging dry wall. Nonny moved back to the area in 1996 to assist with the care of his parents.

Nonny loved to fish and camp, enjoying the outdoors in general. He played the guitar and enjoyed listening to music. Nonny loved spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his mother Marie of Mass City, daughter Samantha Alapert of Farmington Hills, siblings Norman "Butch", David "Dobs", Judy Idol all of Ontonagon, Bob (Deb) of Livonia and Terry of Fenton and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Nonny was preceded in death by his father Norm.

Visitation will be held Friday December 28th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Cane Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Cane Funeral Home. Friends may also call from noon until the time of the service Saturday. Spring burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Greenland, MI. The Cane Funeral Home is assisting the family.
