Gene A. Hokans of Ontonagon, passed away at his home on Sunday, May 22nd, 2023. He was 83 years old.

Gene was born on March 12,1940 in Ontonagon, MI to V. Edwin and Esther (Menigoz) Hokans.

On July 27, 1963, he married Antoinette (Toni) Malnar. Together they had seven children. Gene was an avid hunter and enjoyed doing carpentry and working in his wood shop.

He is survived by his children Carrie (Wayne) Solberg, Sherrie (Don) Gustafson, Kevin, Kyle (Sandra), Keith (Cindy), Kristi (Pat) Pestka and Jill Corey. Twenty-five grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.

Gene is preceded in death by his wife Toni, granddaughter Shauna and both of his parents.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 30th, 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Michael Jacobus officiating. A visitation will be from 10:00am-11:00am, followed by the service at 11:00am. A luncheon will be held in the church hall with the conclusion of the service. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery, Ontonagon, MI.
