Obituary

George Michael Domitrovich, 83, of Ontonagon, Michigan, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2024 at Bayside Village in L'Anse, Michigan.

George was born on May 8, 1941, in Ontonagon, Michigan to Frank Sr. and Mary (Strebenak) Domitrovich. He married Judith (Ellison) on November 14, 1964, and together they had four sons. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this year.

George was a devout Catholic, a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, the Bishop Pinten Council 2931 of the Knights of Columbus and a veteran of the United States Army. George was born on a farm purchased by his parents in 1924. He lived there all his life other than the years he served in the US Army. George and his brother, Carl, purchased the farm from their parents continuing the farming and logging tradition. He worked at the paper mill in Ontonagon but decided to return to a job that he truly loved, logging. George was a man who put his faith and family first. He was a wonderful role model for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren showing the importance of looking for the best in everyone and everything, hard work and a sense of humor.

George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy as well as their sons Patrick (Adell) Domitrovich, David (Paula) Domitrovich, John Domitrovich and Chris Domitrovich; grandchildren Tyler Domitrovich, Hunter Domitrovich, Abigail (Nathan) Szenay, James Domitrovich, Adam (Savannah) Domitrovich, Wyatt Domitrovich, Austin Domitrovich and Shelbie Domitrovich as well as four great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister Dorothy (Tom) Condon and sister-in laws Janet, Nancy, and Karen.

George was preceded in death by his parents Frank Sr. and Mary Domitrovich, siblings Frank (Mary), Carl, Stanley, Helen (George) Hoefferle, Tony (Barbara), Martin and Mary Lou.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024, from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ontonagon, Michigan. The Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Father Michael Jacobus officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sunset Harbor Homes and Bayside Village for the wonderful care that George received. The assistance provided by Sunset Harbor Homes allowed George to remain at home with Judy and on the farm he loved so much until March of 2024. The care that George received by the staff at Bayside Village during the final months of his life made George feel as if he were at home surrounded by a second family who not only provided for all he needed but gave the family the most wonderful support.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Knights of Columbus 2931, 515 Pine Street, Ontonagon, MI 49953 in memory of George Domitrovich for the Holy Family Seminarian Fund.
