Obituary

George Richard Pollard, 88, of Ontonagon died February 17, 2012 at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital's Long Term Care Unit.

George was born June 1, 1923 to Charles and Minnie (Perryman) Pollard in Greenland, MI, where he also attended school. In 1943, he enlisted in the Army. He served with the Medical Detachment 533rd Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment. He received his honorable discharge on December 31, 1945. After several years of working at the pulp mill, he went to work at the White Pine Copper Co., from which he retired after over 30 years of service.

On October 26, 1946, he married Betty Geist of Ontonagon. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

George was preceded in death by his parents; sister, June Coey; and brother, Fred.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; sister, Annabelle Yaunke; brothers, Harry, Frank and William; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Graveside Service for George will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 12 p.m. in Holy Family Cemetery in Ontonagon, with luncheon to follow at Holy Family Catholic Church.
