Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" Yaklyvich passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014 at his home in Silver City, MI.

Jerry was born in Ontonagon, Michigan on May 1, 1937. The Yaklyvich Family was one of the first of 8 families that settled in White Pine. He resided in the Upper Peninsula all of his life.

Jerry worked for the White Pine Copper Mine for 43 years and retired. He and his wife Hazel, owned and operated "The Foothills Restaurant" for 33 years.

Jerry shared his knowledge of the local history and the beautiful places for the tourists coming through to go to. He was very helpful to many people visiting the beautiful U.P. in all seasons.

Jerry spent many years grooming trails for the snowmobilers every winter.

His pride was working on the Greenwood/Bonanza Falls. Working very hard to beautify this area for all those that came to see it or just spend some quiet time in nature.

In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved music and enjoyed dancing. Jerry loved animals and nature. I always loved hearing the stories of his encounters with the animals

Jerry is survived by his children, Delores J. Cowling and her husband Kevin, of Torrance CA. Brenda S. Brees and her husband John of Mitchell, SD. His grandchildren Ebony, Shane, Matthew and Robert.

His brothers, Kenny of Davidson, Mi. , Rick of Ontonagon, Mi. and Jack and his wife Judy of White Pine, Mi.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Anton Jr. and Dorothy, his brother Don, his sister Delores, his brothers Ronnie, Leroy.

Jerry's friends and family are invited to gather at the Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon Friday, May 30th from Noon to 1 p.m. Following the gathering, there will be a gravside service at the Riverside Cemetery, Pastor Rosemary DeHut officiating.

In lue of flowers, the family request donations be made to the charity of ones choice in Jerry's name.

The Cane Funeral Home is assisintg the family.
