Gilbert Hamm

Gilbert Hamm, 80, of Ontonagon, MI passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital LTCU.

Gilbert was born in Ontonagon, MI to Lawrence and Deliah (Picotte) Hamm.  Gil as most called him, began working at an early age with his father in logging camps.  At age 16 he joined the Air Force and became an Airplane Mechanic 1st Class.  After serving in the Air Force  he owned and operated his own logging business and was in the International Union of Operating Engineers.  He married Carol Lafernier on June 8th 1960.

He is survived by his three children; Debra (Shawn) Westman, Gilbert Jr, and Tammy Flowers.  Two brothers;  John (sue) and Lawrence (Mary Hamm.  One sister; Judy (Jim) Griffin.  He had 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  Gil devoted much of his time to his grandson Brandon Hamm.

He is preceded in death by his parents; the late Lawrence and Deliah (Picotte) Hamm.  His wife Carol, one son; Gilbert, his sister; Nancy and brother Gaylord.

You have probably seen Gil riding around town on his scooter with his beloved dog Maggie, his

'side kick".

Graveside services will be held Friday, July 6th at the Holy Family Cemetery. Military Rites will be preformed by the Ontonagon County Veteran's Association.

The Cane Funeral Home of Ontonagon is assisting the family  with arrangements.
