ONTONAGON - Glen Olson, 96, Ontonagon, died Sunday, September 21 at Maple Manor Nursing home in Ontonagon.
He was born in Superior, Wisconsin, son of Ben and Helen Olson. Glen grew up in Lugarville, Wisconsin. In 1933, he married the former Katherine "Bubs" Kennedy of Butternut, Wisconsin. The couple came to Ontonagon in the mid 1930's.
Glen followed the lumber camps in Northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula as a cook and was a cook at camps in the 14 mile Point area. His last camp was Hilgers just past Four Corners.
Glen then began operating a restaurant on River Street in 1948 and then moved his restaurant to the 500 Block of River street one and one half years later. He retired from the restaurant in 1974. Following retirement Glen drove school bus for the Ontonagon School District. He loved spending time at his cabin on the Lake south of Kenton.
Glen and Bubs moved to White Pine in 1988.
He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church of Ontonagon and St. Jude's Catholic Church, White Pine, of the Knights of Columbus where he was also a past Grand Knight.
Glen was preceded in death by his daughter Katherine Leiker in 1988, his wife Katherine "Bubs" Kennedy Olson in 1998, 2 brothers Robert & Nolan Olson and 1 sister Helen Mazurek.
He is survived by a son Jim ( Sue) Olson, a son-in law Ben (Mary) Leiker, six grandchildren, Kimberly (Paul) Olson-Kosmatka, Robert Glen (Stacy Kersens) Olson, Katherine (Robert) Leiker-Rubich, Elisabeth Leiker, Deborah Leiker Olkkonen and Benjamin Glen (Jaqueline) Leiker, 13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Jude's Catholic Church in White Pine , Father Antony Lukose officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
The Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon is in charge of arrangements.
