Grace Edna Makimaa, 87 of Mass City and then Ontonagon, passed away on August 4, 2025, at Westgate Nursing Home in Ironwood Michigan surrounded by family.

Grace was born in Ontonagon Michigan to George and Edna Weisinger on August 11, 1937. She went to school in Ontonagon. She married Gerald Makimaa on November 24, 1956, in Ontonagon. Grace worked and loved her job of 40 years at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Ontonagon.

Grace loved knitting & crocheting. Her biggest joy was making matching Christmas stockings for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Grace also had a passion for reading true stories.

Grace is survived by her six children, son Mike (Cindy) Makimaa, daughter Sherry (Mark) Norris, daughter Pam Makimaa, son Jeff (Kim) Makimaa, daughter Cathy (Dan) Pender & daughter Marla (Troy) Cochran. Grace is also survived by the joys of her life: Grandchildren, Christopher, Brian, Lori, Ashley, Shaun, Zach, Josh, Katie, Derek, Lacey, Kyle, Kory, Tiphani & Jennifer. Great grandchildren, Tristan, Hailee, Casen, Clair, Ethan, Olivia, Natalie, Oscar, Emilie, Averee, Eli, Blake, Lucy, Cameron, Winry, Hunter, Daacsher, Mavrick, Cooper & Charlotte. Great great grandchildren, Liam & Keaton. Grace is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband Gerald, mother Edna, father George, stepfather Joe, brothers Norma & Virgil, sister Bonnie and grandson Mitchell.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 14th, 10:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. at Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon, with the funeral service following at 11:00a.m.

A luncheon will be held at the Cane Court reception hall immediately after service.

Committal Rights will take place on Thursday, August 14th at 3:00p.m. at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Greenland Michigan.
