Harold James Bohm, 81, of Ontonagon, Michigan, passed away of End Stage Lewy Body Dementia on February 21, 2015, at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital. In accordance with his wishes, there will not be any public memorial services.
Harold Bohm was born in Manhattan, New York City, New York, to August and Meta Bohm, on September 28, 1933. He went to high school at Manhattan School of Aviation Trades, on East 63rd Street, served in the Junior Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corp and competed in boxing. After high school, he studied at New York University (NYU), worked for New York Telephone (NYTel) and completed the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) Institute's Radio and TV Repair Course. Starting in 1955, he worked on computers at Teleregister Corporation, which provided early data processing and transmission equipment for the New York Stock Exchange, major banks and airlines. In 1964 his position transferred to the new Bunker Ramo Corporation, a manufacturer of military electronics devices and digital computers. In 1968, after completing advanced training in Minneapolis, Harold worked for 20 years as a Systems Analyst for Control Data Corporation, which served as a contractor on supercomputers at Knolls Atomic Power Labs in Niskayuna, New York, in support of their high-security US Naval Nuclear Propulsion program.
Harold married Diana Jean Gilbert, of Akron, Michigan, on February 1, 1964, in Greenwich, Connecticut. They met at National Airlines Reservation Systems, where Diana worked and Harold serviced computers. The couple lived in the Bronx, and Monroe, and raised their children in Clifton Park, New York. The family enjoyed many happy days boating on Queechy Lake and Lake George. After Harold's retirement in 1989, the couple travelled frequently. Harold and Diana moved to Ontonogan to live near family in 2009.
Survivors include Harold's wife, Diana Bohm of Ontonagon, son Mark Bohm, a Computer Chip Architect in Austin, Texas, son Eric Bohm, a Senior Research Programmer in Urbana, Illinois, daughter Valerie Eckhard, a Nurse Anesthetist in Neosho, Missouri, brother Richard Bohm of Woodland, Alabama, grandson Nathan Bohm, a Corrections Officer from Austin, Texas, granddaughter Angela Bohm of Austin, Texas, granddaughter Celeste Eckhard of Neosho, Missouri, and grandson Colten Eckhard, of Neosho, Missouri.
