Obituary

Harold Samuel "Sam" Sain, 81 of Marquette, MI, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at his home with his wife by his side.

Sam was born in White Cloud, Michigan to Harold Sain & Ellen (Mursu) Sain on June 8, 1942.  He attended Ewen High School in Ewen, Michigan and went on to serve in the Army from 1959-1964, serving 13 months in Korea. Sam married the love of his life, Sylvia (Metas) Sain on October 25, 1961. After leaving the Army they returned to Ewen for a few years, then ventured to the Detroit area returning to Ewen in 1966 to raise their three children. Sam worked at White Pine Mine for a few years leaving to work on the railroad. He retired from LS&I railroad after 34 years of service in 2002.

After raising their children, Sam and Sylvia moved to Marquette, MI in 1986. Sam was an avid hunter; he loved to spend time at deer camp with his son, son-in-laws, father, grandchildren and friends.  He didn't care if he got a deer, to him, camp was an opportunity to hang out with all of his family.  Sam also loved to fish and always had good stories to tell. Sam was a diehard Detroit Lions fan (he would love that the Lions made the playoffs this year) and an avid Michigan Wolverine football fan. Sam enjoyed his detective shows and was an avid reader, you could always find books of all types next to his chair and his bedside.  Sam was a loving husband, father and a friend to all. Everywhere he went, you could find him talking to people that he knew, and those that he didn't. He was always happy and kind to all.

Sam is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Sylvia; two children, daughter Tina (John) Brandt, and son Todd (Crissy) Sain, sister Gina (Paul) Johnson, grandchildren Tyler (Liz) Brandt, Ashley (Jon) Girard, Joshua Worachek, Seth Sain, and Zachary Sain, great grandchildren Braylynn Girard, Baby Girl Brandt due 5/2024, and special friends/family Joe & Stephanie Havican.

Sam was preceded in death by his daughter Tammy (Sain) Worachek, parents Harold & Ellen Sain, brother Kenneth Sain, sister Barbara Sain, and many numerous other family members.
