Harvey Joseph Peterson, age 98, passed away in his home peacefully on January 10, 2025, in Ontonagon, Michigan. Harvey dedicated his life to serving his family, his community and his country.

A proud veteran, Harvey served in the Army during the Korean War, embodying the resilience and commitment expected of his generation. Following his military service, he embarked on a lifelong career in education and also maintained the family farm. Harvey was a respected teacher and vocational coordinator at the Ontonagon Area High School for several decades, spanning the 1950's to the 1980's. He cherished the visits from former students long into his retirement.

Harvey was a member of Siloa Lutheran Church, where he served in various capacities reflecting his commitment to his community.

In his personal life, Harvey was a devoted husband to Bertha V. Peterson for over 70 years. He was a loving father to James (Debra), Gary (Maria), Robert (Gail) and Mary (Scott) Foster. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Daniel (Kristin), David (Cassie), Rachel, Ryan (Chelsea), Meredith (Andrew), Megan, Matthew, and Michael and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews and his beloved sister, Ruth Morley. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Bertha Peterson, and his siblings-in-law, Ron Morley and Gordon and Ellen DuChene.

Funeral services for Harvey will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the Siloa Lutheran Church in Ontonagon. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the start of the service. Military rites performed by the Ontonagon County Veterans Association will be held at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Rockland later the same day at 1:30.
