Hilda Katherine (Sironen) Ojala, 93, of Ewen died on Thursday, December 27, 2007, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming.

Hilda was born on November 16, 1914, in Ironwood, MI, the daughter of Emil and Maria (Hirsimaki) Sironen. Hilda lived most of her life in Ewen, and it was there she married Sanford M. Ojala on June 22, 1940. Together they raised nine children. Sanford, Hilda, and their family were faithful members of First Lutheran Church in Ewen.

Hilda is survived by her children: Daniel Ojala, Lake Linden, Marlys Roberts, Negaunee, Lois (Kenneth) Krahn, Marshfield, WI, Sharon Cottrell and Elaine Benson, Taunton, MA, Alice (William) Zinsser, Negaunee, Sara (Duane) Vetter, Wausau, WI, Leah (Gerald) Wisnewski, Onalaska, WI, and James (Christine) Ojala, Ewen. Surviving also are twenty grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Her surviving siblings are Eli (Marjorie) Sironen, Ewen, Senia Keski, Kenosha, WI, and Reuben Sironen, Highlands Ranch, CO. Preceding Hilda in death were her husband, three brothers, Reino, Matt and Alex, and three sisters, Saima Waara, Ruth Suomumaki and Gertrude Kallio. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Rev. Lance Roberts of Negaunee.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 30, 2007, at First Lutheran Church, Ewen. The Rev. John Kuziej, pastor, will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Lutheran Church.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dennis Brown of the Cane Funeral Home, Ontonagon.
