Ilona Elanor Barron 95 of Mass City passed away Thursday, March 13, 2025 at the Canal View Nursing Home in Hancock, MI.

She was born September 19, 1929 in Mass City to John & Nelma (Erickson) Makinen. Ilona was a reading specialist and teacher for many years. She is fondly remembered to this day by her former students, still receiving cards from many of them.

Ilona is survived by her son Fred (Susan) Barron, sister Mary Pulkas and special niece Heidi Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her husband George Barron.

A graveside service is planned for the spring at Maple Grove Cemetery in Greenland, MI and will be announce by the Cane Funeral Home.
