IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James
Nehmer
October 7, 1938 – September 23, 2024
James "Jim" Nehmer, beloved husband, father and grandfather entered heaven with a shout on September 23, 2024 from a courageous battle with throat cancer. I am sure that he is excitedly using his voice at this time. He will be greatly missed by the love of his life Amaryllis "Amy" Nehmer and family.
Jim was born on his brother Henrys' birthday of October 7, 1938, in Trout Creek, Michigan, to Edward and Mercile Hale Nehmer. He grew up in Trout Creek and graduated from Trout Creek High School. He served in the army as a security officer at Fort Sill during the Cuban Crisis with a specialist ranking fourth class. He then worked as a sawyer for a few years before finding a position at the Ontonagon Paper mill where he worked for 37 years as a paper tester and pipe fitter. Upon retirement he spent his time doing some of the things he greatly loved from gardening, telling stories, reading stories, cribbage, enjoying the woods and being a member of the Masonic Lodge of Ewen.
For the past few years, he has spent his time relegating his love of jokes, sayings and stories with his caregivers and family. His favorite joke to tell was "have you heard the rumor going around about butter? Don't spread it around." Special thanks to all medical staff and Elara Caring for providing the loving care and support the last few years.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Amaryllis, and their 2 children. His son, Gabriel (Carrie) Nehmer is from Temperance, Michigan with their children, Audrey, Dominic, Bryce and Curtis. Their daughter, Kimberly (Michael) Waters is from Hudson with Conner, Mya, Joel Waters and Natalie (Johnny) Corser. Jim is further survived by his sister Sharon (Paul) Abrahams of Hancock, MI, many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ed and Mercile and then brother Henry.
