Obituary

James (Jim) Brennan Rogan passed away at Aspirus Hospital in Duluth, MN on September 16, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Born on October 19, 1948, to Kevin and Ruth (Danula) Rogan in Calumet, MI, Jim graduated in 1967 from Calumet High School. He was drafted into the Army in 1968, transferred to the Marines, and served in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970.

Jim married Kathleen (Liimatta) Rogan on August 2, 1975, and they moved to Ontonagon in 1976 when Jim began working for the State of Michigan as a maintenance mechanic. It was during this time that he attended night school at Gogebic Community College. He graduated with an Associate Degree in Technology – Automotive Mechanics in 1979. This same year he joined the Ontonagon Fire Department, where he volunteered for 36 years before becoming an honorary member. He worked at 'The Porkies' for 34 years before retiring in 2010.

Jim was a dedicated life member of the Ontonagon VFW Post 5600, at one point serving as commander and quartermaster. He loved hunting with his brothers at Misery Bay, fishing, picking berries with the grandkids, and making jam and other canned items.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Kathleen, daughters Jaime (Dennis) Rogan, Jenifer (Lance) Buckley, sons Michael and Robert Hill; siblings Linda (Phil) Groft, Mary (John) Fosness, Kevin (Rhonda) Rogan; grandchildren Tory, Kaetlyn, Matthew, Amber, Isaac and Sophia; great-grandchildren Aubrey, Valentina, and Ryker; sister-in-law Angelique Rogan, and several nieces and nephews.

He is now reunited with family who have gone before him--his parents Ruth and Kevin Rogan, his brother Daniel Rogan, and his grandson Finley Padden.

Jim was a wonderful man who did anything for his family and friends.  His laugh, sense of humor and kind heart will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

A graveside military service will be held at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Ontonagon at 12 PM on Saturday, September 21, 2024. A celebration of life will be held at VFW Post 5600 at 1 PM. Food will be served by his family.

Jim had a soft spot for animals and donated often to Ontonagon County Animal Protection (OCAP). Feel free to honor his memory by donating:  www.ocappaws.org
