James R. Smartt, 66 of Silver City passed away October 6, 2014 at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital.

He was born July 12, 1948 in Wyandotte, MI to James E. and Carrie B. (Qualls) Smartt. James served in the U.S. Army 2nd Infantry Division, Indian Head from1967-1971, and worked as a Journeyman Electrician at National Steel-Great Lakes Division in Ecorse, MI.

James loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter and enjoyed hiking, exploring, and mining history.

He is survived by wife, Monica; son Erik (Aimee) Smartt; grandson Hunter; sister Debra (Doug) Grissom; stepdaughter Donna Hallgren and stepson William Bryan. James was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Service for James will be held at a later date and will be announced.
