Jennie E. Hill, 98, a former resident of Ontonagon, passed away Friday morning, October 24, 2014 at Portage Pointe in Hancock where she had been a resident for the past four months. Prior to residing at Portage Pointe, Jennie had been a long time residence of The Bluffs in Houghton.

Jennie was born May 7, 1916 to John and Wilhelmina Arkelin and lived on the family farm in Rockland. In 1933, Jennie graduated from the Rockland High School. She was married to the late Charles Hill in 1938 and moved to Ontonagon where she worked for Dr. Bill Strong as a medical receptionist and Finnish interpreter.

Jennie was a member of the Ontonagon United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Ontonagon Historical Society, Ontonagon Woman's Club, the women's bowling league and the Ontonagon Golf Club.

Jennie enjoyed cooking and baking, especially at the holidays; spending time with family and friends at camp hunting partridge, snowmobiling and socializing. She was especially fond of feeding her backyard birds and proud of her lovely flower gardens. She loved to play golf and was very active at the Ontonagon Golf Club. Jennie had a kind, giving and gracious heart to everyone. She was full of SISU right until the end, and will be greatly missed by so many that knew her and loved her.

Jennie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Wilhelmina; husband, Charles; and siblings Eino (Leona) Arkelin, Lillian (Ray) Harnish, Edna (Walter) Eichinger, Sylvia (Carl) Swanberg and Rudy (Ruth) Arkelin.

She is survived by her brother, Roy (Gertrude) Arkelin of Whitehouse, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Jennie Hill will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, October 31 at the Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon with Pastor Bruce Steinberg officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00AM a
