John (Jack) Dahlstrom, 74, of Ontonagon, died Monday, October 19, 2009 at Marquette General Hospital with his family by his side.

He was born November 18, 1934 in Hubbell Michigan, son of the late Marie Monville and Albert Dahlstrom, adopted by Clarence and Evelyn Machia. He attended school at Bark River Harris.

He was a journeyman iron worker for seven years. He worked at White Pine Mine for 11 years as an experimental miner, chief steward and safety man until he was seriously injured. His passion was helping others in need especially legal and welfare issues. He definately made an impression with all who met him.

John was married to the former Jewel Frieberg of Hubbell, Michigan on June 27, 1953. She survives. Also surviving four sons: John Jr. of Greeley, Colorado, Scott (Sheri) of Ontonagon, Jerry of Marquette, Jeff (Joan) of Ontonagon and five daughters: Joan (Tim) Kemppainen of Mass City, Julie (Bill) O'Connell of Mass City, Tammy (Ted) Jerome, Laurie Daniels, Lisa Ricklard. John had twenty grandchildren: Dawn, Gerald Jr., David, Jennifer, Leah, Jenna, Christopher, Brian, Lindsay, Brandy, Derek, Allan, Sarah, Joshua, Justina, Zachary, Brett, Adam, Crystal and Alex. Jack also had eight great grandchildren.

Besides his parents and adoptive parents he was preceded in death by three brothers (Hubert, Ted and Billy). and one sister (Albertine).

A memorial service will he held at Holy Family Catholic Church Friday, October 23 at 11 a.m. with the Father Michail Jacoby officiating. Committal will take place at the church with luncheon to follow in the church basement. Visitation will be at the church Friday from 10 a.m. until the start of the service.
