John H. Gilbert, age 98, passed away March 31, 2012 at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital Long Term Care Unit following a short illness.

John was born in Akron, MI on September 28, 1913. He is survived by his two daughters, Diana Bohm (Harold) of Ontonagon, Sherill Botkins (Robert) of Ontonagon; and son, John L. Gilbert (Deborah) of Virginia. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Mark Bohm (Amanda) of Texas, Eric Bohm of Illinois, Valerie Eckhard (Bryan) of Missouri, Jennifer Ratts (Charles) of Oklahoma, John W. Gilbert (Nikki) of Virginia, and Monica Kangas (Travis) of California; and four great-grandchildren: Nathan and Angela of Texas and Celeste and Colton of Missouri.

John was married to Elva Lewis, who preceded him in death on February 1, 2004. He was a farmer, then worked for two different businesses in Akron, and also sold real estate. He and his wife traveled extensively throughout the US.

At John's request, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family service planned. Those wishing to send an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a library book in memory of John or a charity of their choice.
