Obituary

John "Jack" Leslie Shilman, 60, of Silver City passed away Monday, May 09, 2011.

Jack was born February 2, 1951 in Aberdeen, SD to Harold Frederick and Joyce (Ryman) Shilman. He grew up in Warner, SD and graduated from Warner High School in 1969. Jack served in the Marine Corps from 1971-1973 and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. In 1975, he moved to Michigan and married Sharon Binkley. Jack drove truck from 1975-1980 and ran Binkley's Motel and Cabins from 1980-1986. During the years of 1990-1996 he worked as an Assistant Manager of the Best Western in Silver City. He then started his own business, Shilman Plumbing and Heating in 1996.

Jack, who grew up on a farm, loved fishing and hunting pheasants and taking trips with friends to South Dakota to visit family and hunt. He also enjoyed playing with his grandsons, watching Detroit Tigers Baseball and played baseball in his younger years. He loved telling and hearing a good joke.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Frederick Shilman.

Jack is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughters, Rachael Shilman and Sarah (Daniel) McDougall; grandsons, Liam and Jack McDougall; mother, Joyce Shilman; sisters, Barbara (Robert) Angerhofer, Kay (Roger) Vikander, Janet (Tom) McNary and brothers, Larry, Donn (Janet), and Joel (Robin) Shilman.

A memorial service for Jack will take place Thursday, May 12th at 11 am at the Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon, with visitation one hour prior to service.
