Obituary

John Turpeinen left this world on March 25th, 2026, while hospitalized at UP Health System Marquette. He was born on September 9th, 1929, at his residence in Greenland Michigan. He was raised by his parents Andrew and Hilda in Mass City Michigan after they moved their home from the site in Greenland. He attended school until the 8th grade and then dropped out of school to work on the farm. John met his wife Lois Maloney and they were married on February 19th, 1949. They raised five daughters together, Cheryl, Debbie, Susie, Lori and Peggy. Throughout the years John has had several different jobs, including working at the Caledonia Mine and working in the woods. He also worked at the white pine mine in the General Works department running heavy equipment and eventually retired after working part time at the Ontonagon County Transit system.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as riding his bike and spending time with his dog Basker and family. After his beloved wife Lois passed away John eventually ended up meeting Sandy Kiillunen and moved to Lake Linden where he lived until his passing. They enjoyed each other's company and liked to go dancing on Sundays and spending time with friends. She was by his side until his death. Fond memories of John, {Grandpa T} include going over for saunas, riding on Grandpas John Deere Tractor and riding in the old GMC truck in the back of Rousseau looking for deer while Grandpa was playing old Hank Williams songs on the radio. Grandpa enjoyed music and played the harmonica and guitar.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Toni, wife Lois, daughters Lori and Peggy, granddaughter Elisha, great grandson Cody, son in law Roger Haapala Sr., brother and sister-in-law Gordy and Phyliss Swanson and one nephew David Richards. Survivors include, daughters Cheryl, Susie {Steve} Hebert, Debbie {Bob} Clark, son-in-law Buck Tarnowski, two nephews and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will commence in the summer at the Greenland Pavilion. Cane Funeral Home is assisting with final arrangements, and interment will take place at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Greenland, Mi.
