Obituary

Jorie Ann Haapala went home to the Lord on August 27th, 2013 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Jorie was born on December 17th, 1980 in Rockford, Illinois to the late Charles Davis Jr. and Roberta Davis.

Growing up in Morrison, Illinois, Jorie was introduced to stock car racing at a young age and became the trophy girl at the race track. She attended Morrison High School. There she played volleyball and track. After leaving Morrison she met her future husband Joseph Michael Haapala in Georgia. They were married in Alabama on March 25th, 1999. Joe and Jorie then moved around the world while Joe served in the US Army from 1997 to 2005. Jorie was Joe's rock while he served in Iraq and was a proud Army wife and his biggest supporter. Joe credits Jorie for his survival during those rough times.

Joe and Jorie have two beautiful children, Savannah Nicole and Joey Michelle, who will miss their mother dearly. During married life Jorie enjoyed her husband and kids. She enjoyed spending time with family, and being outdoors hunting, fishing, and four wheeling. She also enjoyed doing crafts. Jorie was an avid Nascar fan with Jeff Gordon as her favorite driver. This provided for friendly competition in the Haapala household due to the fact that Joe is a Dale Earnhardt Jr. fan. They spent many hours going to the track in their earlier married life and watching many races together on television. Her love of racing extended to her nephew Dakota who has become active in racing in his hometown of Morrison. He has worn auntie's favorite and lucky number 17 while winning races in her honor.

She was baptized into the Catholic faith after coming to Michigan and attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockland. She loved her Lord and also her priest, Father Michael Jacobus. Jorie was a vibrant young lady who loved her family as well as life and was taken away too soon. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She leaves behind her husband, two children, mother Roberta Davis, sister Stacey J. Davis Doebler, brother Charlie Davis III, numerous nieces and nephews, and Aunt Helen and Uncle Bob whom she adored. On Joe's side, her mother and father in law, Roger and Cheryl Haapala, Joe's grandfather John Turpeinen, Joe's brothers and sister and their families. She was preceded in death by her father Charles who she talked about often as well as her grandfather Bob Cohoon.

There will be a visitation on September 4th, 2013 from 10-11 am with Mass to follow at St. Mary's in Rockland. Inurnment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. A meal will also be served at St. Mary's following burial.
