Joseph G. "Sonny" Anderson passed away at the Aspirus Ontoangon Hospital Long Term Care Unit on August 27, 2011.

Joe was born in Rockland Township on September 20, 1928 to William and Grace (LeMoine) Anderson. He graduated from Roger Clark High School in 1947 and went to work at the Ontonagon County Road Department. In September of 1950, he was inducted into the US Army and was honorably discharged in September of 1952 at the rank of Corporal.

Joe returned to Rockland and continued his employment with the Ontonagon County Road Commission until his retirement in October, 1988. "Back-em-up Joe" and his grader will always be remembered by the people of Rockland.

He was very community-minded and missed very few Township Board meetings. He was a lifetime member of the Rockland Volunteer Fire Department and the Milton G. Preiss Post #92 American Legion.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Clarence B. "Swift" Anderson.

Funeral Services for Joe will be held Tuesday, August 30 at 4 p.m. at the Cane Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 3 p.m. Interment will follow the service at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Rockland.

Memorials in Joe's name may be made to the Ontonagon County Cancer Association.
