Joyce Szaroletta, 90, of Baraga and Ontonagon died December 26, 2017 at Baraga Memorial Hospital.  Joyce was born September 3, 1926 in Flint, MI to Nita and Edward DeCorde,  She came to Ontonagon where she owned and operated Harbor House Cafe (  The present Syls Restaurant).  She married Edmund Szaroletta and the couple celebrated 50 plus years together before his death, July 4, 2010.  In 1971 the couple adopted two daughters, Kathy (Jake Croteau) and Betti.

Joyce and Ed were partners with Dick and Sandy Hauswirth as owners and operators of the Ontonagon Herald.  Joyce served as the bookeeper at the Herald, they sold the herald in 1990.  She was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and served as a CCD Catechism teacher.  She was also a member of the Ontonagon Golf Club and the Women's Golf League.  When Ed and Joyce became ill they moved to Baraga December 6, 2009 and lived with their daughter Betti.

Joyce is survived by her two daughters, Kathy and Betti, 5 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one brother Kenneth of Maryland and sister Candy in Michigan as well as many nieces and nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held in Ontonagon at the Holy Family Cemetery Catholic Cemetery at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 18th.
