Obituary

Judith Anne (Loutzenhiser) Hokkanen, 85, of Ontonagon, peacefully passed away on December 24, 2023, with family at her side. Judith was born on September 3, 1938, to Albert and Geraldine (Mallory) Loutzenhiser in Mineral Ridge, Ohio. She spent her younger years growing up in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Arizona before moving to Ontonagon in middle school. It was there she met her future husband, John Hokkanen. They married on September 20, 1956 in Detroit and moved to El Paso, Texas, where John was stationed in the Army and their first daughter was born. After completing their service in the Army, they returned to Ontonagon, and two more daughters completed the family.

Judith enjoyed boat rides and fondly recalled pulling John so he could waterski the Flintsteel River. Judith loved her horses and would frequently ride with her daughters to Lake Superior. She also enjoyed reading, driving her convertible, and taking care of her many plants and animals. Judith always treasured time spent with friends and family.

She is survived by her three daughters, Brenda Hamm of Ontonagon, Teresa (Steve) Lindstrom of Ishpeming, and Holly (Jim) Clark of Pleasant Hills PA; her four grandchildren, Heather Lindstrom of Ishpeming, Eric (Chastity) Lindstrom of Ishpeming, Rachel Clark (Stephen Face) of Seattle WA, and Lauren E Clark of Seattle WA; her two great-grandchildren, Aurora Lindstrom of Ishpeming and Sierra Ellet of Big Rapids; her younger brother Mark (Denise) Loutzenhiser of Washburn ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Judith was predeceased by her husband John of 47 years who passed in 2004, her mother and father, and older brother Edward Loutzenhiser.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ontonagon on December 28 at 11 am. Friends may call at the church 1 hour prior to the start of the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ontonagon County Cancer Association, an organization she supported.
