Kenneth C. Fredrickson died on February 3, 2013 at the age of 79. He died at his Rockland home under the care of Aspirus Keweenaw Hospice after a lengthy illness.
Ken was born in Rockland MI on April 23, 1933 to Elsie (Oman) and Herbert (Spike) Fredrikson. The family later moved to Victoria where he spent his youth hunting and fishing. After graduating from Rockland Township High School in 1951 he moved to Milwaukee and worked for Allis Chalmers until joining the Army in 1953. He received an honorable discharge in 1955 and returned to Milwaukee where he again worked for Allis Chalmers until 1960. He returned to the area and worked for the White Pine Copper Mine until getting a job at the Horner Waldorf paper mill in 1967. Horner Waldorf eventually became Stone Container Corp. He retired from Stone Container in 1997 after 30 years as a machinist.
Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping at his beloved Victoria Dam camp site. He spent many hours in his old garage known by many for the "Sanford and Son" sign nailed to the front. He was known for his work as a mechanic and machinist and worked on many cars, small engines, or whatever else needed fixing in and around Ontonagon County. He could design and create just about anything out of the right piece of metal and his lathe.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Elsie Fredrickson, sisters, Jean Cleary, Joyce Willoghbey and June Wilber and his brothers Robert Fredrikson and Gale Fredrikson.
He is survived by his loving and long term partner, friend and care giver Jackie Drabek, his sons David Fredrickson, Dan Fredrickson (Suzanne), his daughter Laura Fredrickson (Bob Hendrickson), grandchildren Mathew Fredrickson, Kyle Fredrickson, Brittany Britos (Pablo), Trevor Pagani, Sierra Hendrickson and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
