SMSgt. (Ret.) Lawrence E. "Larry" Seid, 80 of Rockland, passed away August 15, 2013 at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital.
He was born April 5, 1933 in Rockland to Andrew and Gertrude Seid.
Larry Graduated from Roger Clark School in Rockland in 1951, where he enjoyed playing basketball. After graduation, he enlisted in the USAF and served his country honorably for 27 years, retiring in 1978 as Senior Master Sergeant. He was a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster for his outstanding and meritorious service to the United States. During his career, he was stationed in Takhli RTAFB in Thailand; Kadena AB in Okinawa, Japan; Pinecastle AFB in Orlando, FL; Offutt AFB in Omaha, NE; and KI Sawyer AFB in Marquette County, MI. He also worked as a Rural Postal Carrier from 1989-1995.
Larry married Lucille R. Seid on May 28, 1977. He was a Life Member of VFW Post 5600 in Ontonagon and a Member of American Legion Post 92 in Rockland.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy; children Sandra L. Seid of Milton, FL, Lawrence E. (Vallerie) Seid, Jr. of Ontonagon, William (Milissa) Seid of Pleasant Hill, MO, Linda Walsh of St. Louis, MO; 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and brothers Don, Ted and Bernard.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Gertrude Seid and brother Robert Seid.
Visitation will be held Monday, August 19, 2013 from 12-2 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Rockland. Funeral Services will begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor Bruce Steinberg officiating. Military Honors will take place in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Rockland. A luncheon at St. Paul's will be held following the services
