Obituary

Lella (Louella) Allaire 91 formerly of Rockland passed away Sunday, January 03, 2010 at the Houghton County Medical Facility in Hancock, where she was a resident since July 27, 2009, her 91st birthday. She had been transferred due to the closing of Maple Manor in Ontonagon.

Louella was born at Island Lake, WI on July 27, 1918 to parents John & Mary James. She owned and operated an adult foster care home in Rockland for many years. Before that, Louella had been employed at Ontonagon Memorial Hospital, Marsh Convalescent Home, Wagers Restaurant and many logging camps in the area as a cook.

She was well know for her cooking and bakery she made, as well as the cakes she decorated for many occasions She enjoyed sewing, especially quilts and was also very crafty and made many presents for family and friends. Her other hobby was going to bingo.

Louella is survived by nine of her ten children, Paul Wells of Sierra Vista, AZ, Charles (Loretta) Wells of Lewiston, IL, Al (Charlotte) Wells of Rockland, Janice (Spero) Behr of Power, MI, Marcella (Einard) Mannikko of Ontonagon, Donna (Alvin) Kaurala of Mass City, Carol (Alfred) Behr of Bark River, MI, Linda (Tom Homer) Massie of Ontonagon, Sharon (Mike) McGeshick of Watersmeet, an adopted son Russell (Ernestine) Steele of Rockland, 1 sister Eva Bessler of Ladysmith, WI 28 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Louella was preceded in death by her husband Louis "Bing" Allaire, son Robert Allaire, Granddaughter Charlotte Gagnon, daughter-in-law Trudy Wells, ten brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 7th at 11 a.m. at the Siloa Lutheran Church with Reverend Jeannie Manning officiating. Friends may call at the church 1 hour prior to the start of the service. Spring internment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Rockland.
