Obituary

Leo Erick Siren, 92, died peacefully on May 17, 2014 at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility.

Leo was born to William and Ida (Myllymaki) Siren on February 21, 1922 in Greenland. He graduated from the Mass High School in 1939. He entered the US Army in 1944 and served in Germany and France during World War II.

Leo came home to work on his father's dairy farm, and assumed operation following his father's death in 1955. On June 21, 1951, he married Florence Sexton of Paulding. Leo also occasionally worked in logging, and was active in several civic and business organizations and boards. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the VFW.

Leo is survived by his son Gary (Lynn) Siren; daughter Donna (Eric) Siren-Perryman; step-daughter Diane (Ron) Powelson; 16 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren; sister Alma Bojanic; aunt Beatrice Miilu; special friend Pauline Wesander; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Florence in 1978; sisters Florence Aho, Mabel Malila Martin and Doris Yaklyvich; and step-grandson Curtis Powelson.

In accordance with Leo's wishes, cremation has taken place. Military Rites and burial will take place at the Rousseau Cemetery on Friday, August 29, 2014 at 11 a.m.
