Leonard Makela 79 of Ontonagon passed away Friday, April 17, 2015 at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital's Long Term Care Unit.

He was born November 22, 1935 in Ontonagon to the late Leonard & Anna (Suominen) Makela. Leonard graduated from Ontonagon High School with the class of 1953. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956.  Leonard worked at numerous firms in the area, driving trucks and working construction. He was an avid reader, spending many hours at the local library.

Leonard was preceded in death by his father in 1971 and his mother in 1982.

He is survived by his brother Dennis Makela of Ontonagon, sister Agnes Hiltunen of Scottsdale, AZ, niece Connie (Rene) Hokans of Cave Creek, AZ, nephew Gary (Ann) Ollila of Fenton, MI and numerous cousins.

A graveside service is planned for June 6th at Noon at the Riverside Cemetery in Ontonagon with military honors by the Ontonagon County Veteran's Association.
