LeRoy C. Brookins 68 of Ontonagon passed away Monday, January 15, 2007 at his home.

He was born on April 2, 1938 in Ontonagon, son of A. B. & the late Mildred Brookins.

LeRoy married the love of his life Donna Calkins on November 30, 1957. They had a total of six children together.

LeRoy graduated from Ontonagon high Scholl in 1957. He worked at the Mobil gas station while in high school and until he and Donna moved to Kenosha, WI in 1959. There he began working at the American Motors Plant. They returned to Ontonagon in 1963. LeRoy returned to work the Mobil gas station as manager. LeRoy later purchased Sinclair gas station and owned it until 1975 when he began working fro the Ontonagon Area School system as a bus driver. He was later made head mechanic in September of 1974. LeRoy retired from the school o in March of 2000.

After retirement, LeRoy and Donna spent their winters traveling to Bandera, TX in a fifth wheel camper trailer and enjoyed the warm weather. LeRoy spent his summers fishing, wood working, gardening and helping others.

He was a Boy Scout Leader for several years, a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, served on the Ontonagon Village Council from 1982 to 2002 and was a volunteer fireman from June 19567 to August 1993.

Survivors include his wife Dona, 1 daughter Julie (Robert) Johnson, 5 sons, Dave (Dana), Donald (Debbie), Carl (Julie), Tom (Brenda), Ken (Darcy), 18 grandchildren 6 great-grandchildren, father A.B. Brookins, 2 brothers, Dale and George (Inez), 3 sisters, Judy Hart, Joanna Karow and Charlotte Haas and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leroy was preceded din death by his mother Mildred Brookins.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 18th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon. Funeral services will take place Friday, January 19th 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ontonagon, Pastor Howard Neider officiating. Spring burial will take place at the Riverside Cemetery in Ontonagon, MI.
