Obituary

Leslie "Norman" Alapert 77 of Simar area, Mass City passed away Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Marquette General Hospital.

Norman was born September 15, 1930 son of the later John & Sima (Perttunen) Alaperet. He was educated in the Mass Area Schools. Norman served in the United States Army and completed a tour in Germany. On July 2, 1960 he married Marie Kaarto in the parsonage at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mass City. Norman was employed as a woods worker and later worked construction in the Detroit area. He retired in 1992 and returned to his home in the Simar area in 1994.

Norman enjoyed hunting, fishing and walking in the woods. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and never missed a televised game. Norman spent his winters cheering for his favorite football team, the Green Bay Packers. He loved spending time with his family, friends and his great grandchildren, who kept him on his toes.

Norman is survived by his wife Marie, 6 children Norman "Butch", David "Dobs" & Judy Idol all of Ontonagon, Bobby (Debbie) of Livonia, Terry of Fenton and Gary "Nonny" of Simar area Mass City, 6 grandchildren Teresa Way of Rockland, Ricky Way of Livonia, Candice (Brandon) Teddy, Samantha Alapert both of Farmington Hills & Terry & Ashley Alapert of Redford, 1 step-grandson Moe Marchand of Redford, 5 great-grandchildren Keira Way & Jacob Pantti of Rockland, Katriina and Alexandra Way of Livonia and Brandon Teddy of Farmington Hills, 1 brother Sanfrid Apaperet of Simar area Mass City, several brother and sister-in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Oswald, Wilfred and Douglas and one infant sister Phyllis Lorain.

Visitation will be held Monday October 8th from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Cane Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place Tuesday at 2 pm at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ontonagon with Pastor Howard Neider officiating. Friends may also call at the church 1 hour prior to the start of the service. Military rites, preformed by Ontonagon County Veterans Association, will begin at the church at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Greenland. Friends may view Norman's obituary and leave condolences at canefuneralhome.com.
