Obituary

Lois Gail Ann Turpeinen, 79, went home to the Lord on April 9, 2009.

Lois was born on February 6, 1930 in Mass City, Michigan to Edward and Katherine Codd Maloney. Lois spent her younger years in Mass City, moved to Ishpeming for a few years and then came back to Mass City where she graduated in 1948. She married her loving husband John Turpeinen on February 19, 1949. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family at their side. They spent their years together in Mass City and raised five daughters.

Lois loved to spend time with her family as well knitting, gardening, camping, baking, cooking and going for rides with John and their special dog Max. She was employed by Syl's CafAC. and Elm's Country Market for many years. In her last years, when asked how things were going, she would often reply "Gotta Go!!" This phrase depicted the way she led he life; always on the move.

Lois is survived by her husband John, sister Phyllis Swanson of Ishpeming and half sister Louetta Benninghaus of Marinesco. Daughters Cheryl(Roger) Haapala of Rockland, Debbie( Bob) Clark of Ontonagon, Susie(Steve) Hebert of Green Bay, Lori Johnson of Mass City, and Peggy( Buck) Tarnowski of Ontonagon. Fourteen grandchildren Roger(Vickie) Haapala, John(Mandy) Haapala, Danielle(Leon) Sutherland, Joe(Jorie) Haapala, Chris(Kelly) Hill, Shannon(Brian) Kin, Shelly(Mike) Marciniak, Steve Hebert, Sherrie(Chad) Dieck, Kortni(Sam) Huron, Jesse Johnson, John( Deanna) Myllylahti, Robert(Michelle) Myllylahti, and Elisha Greiser. Fifteen great grandchildren Cody Haapala, Abby, Jason, Marcus, and Megan Sutherland, Savannah and Joey Haapala, Jade Haapala, Damian Coffey, Brittany Myllylahti, Timmy and Hailee Kin, Gracie Marciniak, Stephanie and Cameron Blodgett.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother James Maloney and half brother Thomas Miller. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockland on April 13 at 4:00 with Father Michael Jacobus officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Spring interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Greenland. Cane Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
