IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lorraine Sylvia
Moll
August 16, 1926 – September 21, 2024
Lorraine Sylvia "Rainey" Moll, beloved sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and neighbor, aged 98 years, passed away peacefully in Ishpeming, on Saturday, September 21st, 2024.
She was born August 16, 1926, to Sylvester and Ethel Neuman, in Bruce Crossing. She graduated from Ewen High School at the age of 16, after which, she moved to Milwaukee to work for a phone company and a printer.
Returning to Bruce Crossing, she married Carl Moll in 1945 after his service in WW2, where they built their first home.
She bore two sons, Bruce and Carl ("Jake" and "Bud", respectively) of whom she was intensely proud and fiercely protective.
She valued a strong work ethic and worked many jobs from secretary to store clerk, from waitress to small business owner, from farmer to furrier, and most importantly, being a mother.
She and Carl moved to FL, where they lived and worked and played, for over a decade, before returning to their first home in Bruce Crossing, in the 1980s.
Her creative mind and near-boundless energy found many outlets. She was a curious and voracious reader and was known for her knit socks, her needlework, her baking: cookies, bread, and particularly, her "Rainey Rolls" (or "Rainey Buns").
Ever the hostess, and always looking for an excuse for a "party", she was fond of cheese and crackers and sausage plates and all manners of hors d'oeuvres ("dibby-dabs"). A "party" could consist of a bowl of mixed nuts and dibby-dabs with a bottle of wine in the kitchen or a multi-course meal, served "family style" at the dining room table with "the good China" or even something as simple as champagne and hotdogs on the back deck.
She loved a good book, a whiskey Manhattan, her family and friends, and feeding the wildlife (and the neighbors' dogs) behind her house.
She is survived by her brother Dan (Rosemary) Neuman, daughters-in-law Joan and Nancy; grandson Shawn (Terri); granddaughter Angela (Gavin); great-granddaughter Phoebe; great-grandson Cyrus; great-grandson Graham; great-grandson Chase; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Carl, their sons, Bruce Arthur "Jake", Carl Alexander "Bud", and sister Annette "Nettsie" Wesman.
