Mae Elaine Tyree, 87 of Ontonagon, passed away early Sunday, June 22, 2014 at the home of her daughter in Gladstone, Michigan.

Elaine was born in Highland Park, Michigan to Lloyd and Elsie (Broemer) Mattson July 18, 1926. The family returned to Ontonagon in 1932 and moved to an eighty acre farm on the Cranberry Road in 1934. Elaine graduated from Ontonagon High School in 1944. She attended Ferris State College and then moved to Racine, Wisconsin where she met and fell in love with Daniel Tyree. Elaine and Dan were married in Racine on April 17, 1948. The couple returned to Ontonagon in 1951. They became members of the Ontonagon United Methodist Church in 1964. Elaine worked for several area employers including Bechtel Corporation in White Pine and later Ontonagon Memorial Hospital.

Elaine is survived by her three children, Gayle Mentzer of Troy, Michigan, John (Masako) Tyree of Lansing Michigan, and Linda (Jon) Starr of Gladstone, Michigan, a brother Robert Mattson of Williamston, Michigan, sisters Susan Matero of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Margaret Travis of Williamston, Michigan and Virginia Neuman of Gaylord, Michigan, stepchildren Daniel (Diane) Tyree of Tishigan, Wisconsin and Nancy Becker, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Daniel who passed away in 2010, brothers John and James, and a sister Harriet.

Visitation will be from 6 PM to 8 PM Friday June 27, 2014 at the Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon, Michigan, and from 9 AM to 10 AM Saturday June 28, 2014 at the Ontonagon United Methodist Church.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday June 28, 2014 at the Ontonagon United Methodist Church with Pastor Bruce Steinberg officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
