Obituary

Malcolm Joseph Penegor, age 85 of Rockland entered eternal life on Wednesday morning at the Aspirus Long Term Care Facility, in the loving comforting care of the nursing staff where he had made his home for the past 4 1/2 years.

Malcolm was born and raised in Rousseau MI, to the parents Joseph and Maude Penegor. Malcolm had one brother Maurice, who survives. He graduated from the Mass City School. He worked a variety of jobs before starting at White Pine Copper Mine, where he worked for nearly 40 years and retired at the age of 65. His hobbies and special interests include planting a big garden, camping at Bob Lake and Bay de Gris and also enjoyed making maple syrup and giving it away.

Malcolm married Ann Graham on May 1, 1948. Shortly after, they made their home in Rockland where they raised their family. Malcolm and Ann were married 45 years. Malcolm will be remembered as a caring, dedicated husband to his wife Ann, whom he gave loving care to following her stroke and until her passing. Malcolm will also leave many fond memories at "Camp 19," where he enjoyed hunting, riding his 4-wheeler and socializing with boys at deer camp.

He was a fun loving "people person" and had a large circle of friends. He also loved to dance. Malcolm and Ann started dancing at the old "Tubby's Bar" and at every social gathering they would be seen dancing together. After Ann's passing he found a new companion and dance partner, Gerry Miller. Gerry and Malcolm were together 20 years and danced every Sunday in South Range at the VFW. Gerry made Malcolm's days brighter with her daily 3PM visits to the nursing home. They would socialize and visit with the residents and staff. Malcolm was a resident who adjusted very well to the nursing home and looked forward to his daily beer. He remained close to old friends and also made many new friends while he was there. He will be missed.

Malcolm is survived by his 8 children: Joe (Pam), Bruce (Sue), Dave (Beth), Debbie (Bruce), Ed, Denise, Diane, and Susie (Dale) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his special friend Gerry Miller and her children and grandchildren who call him grandpa.

Services will be Tuesday May 6th at the St Mary's Catholic Church in Rockland, MI. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., and the service will start at 11 a.m. with Father Michael officiating and burial and blessing at the Rockland Cemetery. Luncheon for family and friends will follow at the church.
