Martha Eva Irene Secrist, 93, of Ontonagon, passed away on September 23, 2011 at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital's Long Term Care Facility.

Martha was born in Mass City, Michigan to Richard and Josephine (Waara) Koski on August 14, 1918. Martha attended school in Mass City. She was raised on a farm and was a very hard worker all of her life. Up until a few years ago, she was very active in the VFW and Eagles Auxiliaries and enjoyed working at the Riverview Senior Center, where she was very generous with her time and support.

Martha is survived by her two sons: Charles Richard Owens of Ishpeming, Michigan and Daniel Thomas Owens (Mary Ann) of Iron Mountain, Michigan. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Tom (Colleen) Owens; Jeff (Lynn) Owens; Wendy Owens; Peggy (Kevin) Erickson; Pamela Jensen; James (Brenda) Owens; Suzie LeClair; Daniel Thomas Owens, Jr; Tim (Annette) Miller; Ron (Mie) Miller; David Miller; James Miller; and Patti Shaffer, and several great-grandchildren.

Preceding Martha in death were her first husband, Thomas Richard Owens and second husband, Ralph Secrist; one daughter, Rosalie (Jim) Miller; and four brothers and three sisters: Charles, Bruno, John, and Arnie Koski; and Bertha Thompson, Gertie Francisco, and Esther Peterson.

Arrangements are being made by Cane Funeral Home. At Martha's request, there will be no funeral service. A memorial service may be held at a later date.

The family of Martha Secrist would like to extend their sincere thanks to all the nurses, aides, doctors, and other staff at Aspirius Ontonagon Hospital who helped give Martha excellent care during her stay there.
