Mary Ark 88 of Ontonagon passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at the Maple Manor Nursing Center in Ontonagon where she had been a resident for the past year.
Mary was born on August 29, 1918 in Ontonagon, MI the 9th of 11 children of the late John & Hedwig Yanasak. She attended school and made her home here in Ontonagon. Mary was the Village Treasurer for 6 years. But most will remember her for working many years at the Quality Food Market, later known as Fraki's.
On February 19, 1955 she married Wayne J. Ark. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling and spending winters in the south with the rest of the snow birds. If not traveling her second best pastime was bingo. She also loved spending time with family and friends, especially the great-grandchildren.
Mary is survived by 3 daughters; Arliss Jagielski of Milwaukee, Doreene (Ralph) Baker of Ontonagon and Kim (Joe Heikkila) Wilber of Ontonagon, 1 son Wayne Ark of Ontonagon, 6 Grandchildren; Cynthia, Dawn, David, Jill, Christopher and Kyle, 8 great-grandchildren, 1 brother Benjamin Yanasak of Wisconsin, 1 sister Ann Richmond of Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, 6 brothers, 2 sisters and 6 nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 24th at 11 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Ontonagon, with Father Anthony Lukose officiating. Friends may call at the church 1 hour prior to the start of the service. Inurnment will be at the Holy Family Cemetery. Those who wish may make donations to the Ontonagon Cancer Association.
