Mildred Mae Osborne Fruik Anderson, age 92, of Bergland, Michigan died on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008 at GMCF, Wakefield, Michigan. She was called home just 10 days before her 93rd birthday.
She was born on December 14, 1915 in Osceola, Michigan, daughter of the late Rhoda (Odgers) and William Osborne. William had come over from England when he was about 8 years old. Mildred moved with her family to Flink Street in Ironwood, and she attended grade school in Aurora location and Central School and LLWHS in Ironwood.
On February 23, 1935 she was united in marriage to Lyle C. Fruik at the Presbyterian Church in Ironwood with Rev. Hoffer officiating. Their marriage was blessed with 3 children. She and her husband "Johnny" Fruik ran the Sinclair gas station in Bergland and later the Bergland Mobil for a total of over 17 years. They also ran a teen center for a while on the main street of Bergland. He preceded her in death on September 10, 1973.
She later married George Anderson on November 29, 1976. They spent the summers on Lake Gogebic and the winters in Florida. He preceded her in death on October 16, 2001. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings Leonard Osborne and Gladys Berg.
Mildred was an active member of the Bergland Methodist Church, and contributed much of her needlework to the church. "Grandma Millie" also made more baby afghans than we can count for newborn babies far and wide. She was always a supporter of the town and of her kids and grandkids. Some of her favorite homemade dishes included potato salad, old-fashioned baked beans, pasties and meat pie. SHE WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR HER KEEN INTEREST AND SUPPORT FOR ALL HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
She is survived by two sons, Floyd (Lois) Fruik of Ironwood, and Ted (Wanda) Fruik of Grants, NM, and one daughter Patricia Cook of Bergland; also 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, Dec. 8 at 10 a.m. EST at the Bergland Methodist Church in Bergland, MI, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. EST, with the Rev. Ted Trudgeon officiating. Burial will be at the Lakeview Cemetary in Bergland in the spring.
