IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norman Lester
Weisinger
November 16, 1934 – January 7, 2025
Norman Lester Weisinger, 90, of Ontonagon passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at his home in Ontonagon.
Norman was born in Ontonagon to George and Edna Weisinger on November 16, 1934. He attended high school in Ontonagon where he was active in school sports, excelling in track. After graduating in 1952, he joined the Army and was stationed in Germany, France, Ft. Campbell (KY) and Hood (TX). After his honorable discharge in 1956, he returned to Ontonagon and worked in the woods and at the copper mine in White Pine. On January 25, 1958, he married Alice Johnson of Greenland, MI. In 1963, Norman was hired on at the papermill in Ontonagon and worked there until his retirement in 1996.
Never one to sit still, Norman took on the job of sexton at the Riverside Cemetery as well as plowing snow in the winter. Family was most important to Norman. He actively participated in his children's lives from coaching sports, supporting their activities and home remodeling jobs. He did everything with a smile and sense of humor no matter how many times he had to trudge out into the fields to dig out the snowmobile his kids had buried in the snow. He enjoyed a good prank; one favorite was to get anyone to look out the window when he "waved" to the random vehicle passing by. Norman also enjoyed his Redwings, Tigers and Lions and was excited in hoping for a Superbowl this year.
Norman is survived by his wife Alice (Johnson) of Ontonagon, sister Grace Makimaa, daughters Mary (Jerry) Roehm, Peggy (Bob) Strong, Nancy Adams and son Rodney (Sandra). Grandchildren Joshua (Sarah) Sullivan, Jason (Tasha) Sullivan, Megan Strong, Kyle (Gunaz) Strong, Britni (Joe) Halama, Carly Adams and Kelsey (Seth) Weber. Great grandchildren Gavin and Brennen Sullivan, Braydon Strong, Shay and Kade Sullivan, Ada and Christian Halama and Stella Weber.
Norman is preceded in death by his parents George and Edna Weisinger, and stepfather Leroy Weisinger, mother and father in-law Eino and Mary Johnson, brother Virgil Weisinger and sister Bonnie Davenport and son-in-law Greg Adams.
A memorial service and burial will be held in the spring.
Cane Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
