Obituary

Patricia Lou (Spike) Talsma, age 87, of Bruce Crossing, Michigan was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, September 14, 2025.

Pat, beloved wife, mom, grandma and great grandma was born on March 25, 1938, to Cyril and Myra (Oulmann) Spike in Plymouth, Michigan. She was received into God's family through Holy Baptism on April 17, 1938, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Spike family moved to the Owosso area in 1945. She was confirmed in her Christian faith on April 10, 1952, at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Owosso, Michigan. She graduated from Chesaning High School in 1956. Pat continued her education at Michigan State University where she completed her degree in 1960 as a registered nurse. It was at MSU where she met John J. Talsma, a fellow RA and a student of veterinary medicine. John and Pat were married on September 17, 1960, at Salem Lutheran Church in Owosso with Rev. Ken Vertz officiating. The Lord blessed them with 65 years together, 4 children, 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Pat lived a life guided by her faith and trust in the Lord Jesus, and she nurtured that faith among her family across generations. John and Pat moved from Caledonia, MI to Bruce Crossing, MI in 1981. She was an active member of St Paul Lutheran Church in Caledonia, Michigan and then at Bethany Lutheran Church in Bruce Crossing, MI. She volunteered as a 4-H leader, Sunday school teacher, St Nicholas Project coordinator, sang in Community choirs, helped found SONCO Ambulance, served as an EMT and provided housing for many EMTs from the ALERT program who worked with SONCO.

Pat is survived by her husband of 65 years, John J. Talsma; her children, Valerie Talsma, Pam (Mike) Krueger, and Craig (Melissa) Talsma; four grandchildren: Rose (Kurt) Shrader, Paul (Heather) Krueger, Laura (William) King and Eli Talsma; 7 great grandchildren: Evelyn, Angeline and Beatrix Shrader; Amos, Maxwell and Heidi Krueger; and Gale King. Pat was predeceased by her son, Kurt Talsma, her sister, Edith Kettler and her parents. She is survived by an extended family including her siblings: Richard (Madelon) Spike, Bill (Deb) Spike, Diann Jenkins, Tom (Barb) Spike; and many dear friends. We will miss her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor.

Pat's visitation and funeral will be held at the Cane Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce Crossing. Visitation will be Friday, September 26th, 5:00pm to 6:30pm EDT and Saturday, the 27th, from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. Her Chrisitan Funeral will follow at 4:00pm EDT with Pastor Caleb Raasch officiating. Following interment at Maple Grove Cemetery dinner will be served at the VFW Hall in Bruce Crossing.

Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me will live, even if he dies. And whoever lives and believes in me will never perish. Do you believe this?" John 11:25-26
