Paul Kariainen, 92 of Trout Creek, passed away November 22, 2014 at Westgate Nursing Home in Ironwood.
Paul was born December 15, 1921 in Agate to the late Charles and Amelia (Jauhiainen) Kariainen. He served in the US Army during WWII, and was a member of the American Legion Post 494. On April 16, 1948, he married Erma Saukko. They had five children: Pauline, Steven, Loren, Joelle and Carla.
For many years, Paul was the sawyer for Abbot Fox Lumber Co. Later, he worked for Celotex Corp. and other sawmills. He even built and operated his own sawmill. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a kind, loving, hardworking man.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; wife Erma; daughter Pauline; and brothers Arvo, Charles, Toivo and Wilho (Wardy).
He is survived by his sister Sylvia; brother Ernest; sons Steven (Sharon), and Loren (Rose); daughters Joelle (Jack) Chaney and Carla (Tod) Dalrymple; many grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Cane Funeral Home in Bruce Crossing. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until the time of service. Spring interment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Bruce Crossing.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul's memory may be made to Westgate Nursing Home or Legion Post 494.
Paul's family wishes to thank the special people at Westgate for making dad's last days comfortable.
