IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Peter E.
Hautamaki
August 11, 1930 – November 15, 2010
Peter Eugene Hautamaki, 80, of Ontonagon passed away on November 15, 2010 at the Omega House in Houghton, following a courageous eleven year battle with cancer.
Peter was born August 11, 1930 in Hancock, to parents Waino and Martha Hautamaki of Mass City, and was the oldest of five children. In 1948, he graduated from the Mass High School, and was the basketball team manager for the 1948 Mass Rockets, who were state basketball champions. Peter was drafted into the Marines during the Korean War, and then did woods work in Colorado and mined in Carlsbad, New Mexico, where he survived a mining accident. He attended Cal-Poly Tech in California, graduating as salutatorian of his class. He then joined Honeywell in Minneapolis, serving in their computer division. Peter retired to Ontonagon from Honeywell after 35 years of service in their Boston-area, Dallas and Houston offices.
Peter married Doris Barnard of Texas, who preceded him in death. He is survived by siblings Richard (Sue) Hautamaki of Friendwood, Texas, John Hautamaki of Nisula and Pauline (Jim) Cayanus of Nisula; children Eric Hautamaki of Ontonagon and Lisa (Stuart) Bailey of Marietta, Georgia; stepsons Mark Lane of El Campo, Texas and Jim Lane of Phoenix, Arizona. He is also survived by grandchildren Sarah Hautamaki of Rochester, New York and Stuart Bailey of Marietta, Georgia; and great-grandchildren Tyler Searlez and Christian Zeitvogel of Rochester, New York.
In addition to his wife, Doris, Peter was preceded in death by his sister, Ruby Wallace of Bergland and brother-in-law Calvin Wallace of Bergland.
A graveside memorial service will take place in the Alston cemetery in the spring.
The family would like to thank Peter's many special caregivers over the past eleven years.
