Raymond Kenneth Hegg, 85, of Ontonagon, passed away October 21, 2011 at Fox River Assisted Living in Appleton, WI, where he had lived for the past 14 months.

Ray was born June 28, 1926 to Charles and Maude (Anderson) Hegg. He grew up in Mason, WI, and graduated from Ashland High School in 1944. He was drafted and spent 15 months in the Army. On February 25, 1947, he married Lemire Ylitalo. They spent a lot of time visiting family and children, and after retiring, enjoyed many bus tours throughout the United States. Ray enjoyed fishing on Lake Superior, snowmobiling, his hunting shack, and all-terrain vehicle. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church since 1951, for which he did a lot of volunteer jobs.

The family moved from Ashland area to Ontonagon in 1951, and Ray went to work for his brother, Milton, at Hegg Plumbing. He attained a Journeyman plumber's license and worked there for 10 years. He then worked at the Ontonagon Telephone Company for 24 years, from which he retired.

Ray is survived by his wife, Lemira; his son, David (Janice) Hegg; three daughters: Phyllis (Art) Moilanen, Denise (Dennis) Benedict, and Annette Lloyd; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters: Lorayne Larson and Adeline Aspittle.

He was preceded in death by his son, Howard; sister, Charlotte; and five brothers: Leslie, Milton, Charles, Donald and Richard.

Funeral services for Raymond will be held Friday, October 28 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Ontonagon, with luncheon to follow. Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment with military honors will be in Riverside Cemetery in Ontonagon, following the luncheon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Church of Ontonagon or the Ontonagon County Historical Society.
