Richard (Dick) Bruce Barlock, 67, of Bergland, MI passed away on Tuesday, May 6th 2025 at home with his wife and daughter, after a battle with soft-tissue sarcoma. Dick was born in Wakefield, MI, to Andrew and Hazel (Christensen) Barlock on September 5th, 1957. Dick graduated from Bergland High School in 1975, graduated from Gogebic Community College, and attended Ferris State University and Northern Michigan University.
Dick married Mary Beth (Verville) Barlock on April 26, 1980, recently celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary. They have one daughter, Rachael Barlock, In 1981, Dick started working at White Pine Copper Company, and was instrumental in the transition to White Pine Copper Refinery. He was passionate about his work, and held positions as operations manager, superintendent, and most recently, consulted on this work through his treatment and up to his passing. His consulting was key in the copper recycling project.
He had many hobbies and a love for life. Dick enjoyed boating on Lake Gogebic, golfing, and watching his favorite sports teams. He took pride in his yard and home, including keeping the many bird feeders well-stocked. He loved spending time with his family, especially visiting his daughter with whom he shared many passions. He was a history buff – loved museum visits and watching ships in the Great Lakes.
Remaining to cherish Dick's memory are his wife, Mary Beth (Verville) Barlock; his daughter, Rachael Barlock; his sisters: Winnie (Jim) Borseth, Pat (Alan) Houle; and his mother-in-law, Mary (Dolly Verville) Pakonen; and 67 loving nieces and nephews. Preceding Dick in death are his parents Andrew and Hazel, and his brother, Andrew (Ron) Barlock.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 15th at 3:00pm at Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon, Michigan. After the Memorial Service, friends are invited to the Konteka Restaurant in White Pine for a Celebration of Dick's life. The Celebration of Life will take place at approximately 5 p.m.
