Starts at 4:00 pm (Eastern time)
Rodney Majurin, 61, of Ontonagon passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at his home with his wife Chrissie by his side. Rod was born April 12, 1965, in Ontonagon, the son of the late Jean Kovalainen.
Rod graduated from Ontonagon Area High School in 1983. He then attended Gogebic Community College graduating with a Construction Management degree. Rod owned and operated Rod Majurin Construction. He spent many decades building homes, businesses, and structures, but also built lasting relations with clients, employees, and fellow contractors. His commitment to quality craftsmanship and his strong work ethic earned him the trust and admiration of all who knew him. His crowning achievement was the building of Ray and Sue Young's homestead.
On July 13, 1990, he married the love of his life, Chrissie Lahti. Thru 35 years of marriage, they created a legacy of love thru their four sons and one daughter.
Rod is survived by his wife, Chrissie, four sons, Melvin (Chelsea), Eddie, Eric and Jerry (Shaya); his daughter Erin (Brandon). He took great pride in his role as a grandpa to Kaiden, Genevieve, Regan, Rory, Rowin and Mirabel. He is further survived by siblings Ronda McGuire, and Rick (Cassandra) Majurin; Mother and father-in-law, Mary and Duane Lahti; sister-in-law Jackie Tousignanti; bonus daughter, Jessica (Aaron) Prescott; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many life-long friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Melvin and Fran Majurin, his mother Jean Kovalainen and nephew Matt McGuire.
Rod was one of a kind. A man who never met a stranger, never held back an opinion, and rarely thought about whether something should be said before saying it. He lived boldly, spoke honestly, and filled every room with his unmistakable personality. While he may have tested the patience of a few along the way, he also gave people countless stories, laughs, and memories that will be shared for years to come. His family finds comfort knowing wherever he is, it is undoubtedly a little more interesting now.
A celebrating of life will be held at the Majurin residence on Friday June 26th at 4:00pm.
Cane Funeral Home is assisting the family.
