Sara Gianunzio (Stenfors) 89 of Bruce Crossing and Iron Mountain passed away on July 4, 2006 in Ontonagon.

She was born April 23, 1917 in Eagle River Michigan. Sara moved to Bruce Crossing with her parents Leo and Helen (Moilanen) Nippa. She attended the local schools and graduated from Ewen High School.

In 1936 she married Eino Stenfors. They owned and operated Stenfors Tavern in Bruce Crossing. Eino passed away in 1956. In December 1961 she married Santus "Midge" Gianunzio. They made their home in Iron Mountain. He passed away in 1995. Sara returned to the Bruce Crossing area in 2004.

Sara is survived by 4 sons Michael (Sara) of Bruce Crossing, Russell of Crookston, MN, Robert of San Diego, CA and Ronald Stenfors of Springdale, UT, I step-son Bruce (Judy) Gianunzio of Duluth, MN, 16 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother Eli, a sister Ethel Brent and a daughter in law Janet Stenfors.

Sara enjoyed the outdoors and was active in fishing, hunting and other outdoor activities with her family. Sara was a kind and supportive mother and grandmother who loved her family.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 8th at 11 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Paynesville with Pastor John Kuziej officiating. Friends may call at the church 1 hour prior to the start of the service. Inurnment will be in the family lot in Hillside Cemetery, Bruce Crossing. Dennis Brown of the Cane Funeral Home is assisting the family.
