George Sporleder of Ontonagon Michigan, a former White Pine resident, died April 26, 2007 at home with his family.
George was born April 23, 1936 in Antigo, Wisconsin.
George was the beloved husband of Cherrie Sporleder, devoted father of Vickie Sporleder, Ironwood Michigan, Mark, (Shelia) Sporleder, Nashville Tn. Lisa Sporleder, Ontonagon Mi. after returning home from serving in Iraq, Cindy Manz, South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Steve Sporleder, South Carolina.
Loving Grandfather to Kevin, Jamie, and Isaac Sporleder of Ironwood, Michigan, Zachary Sporleder and Nichole of Nashville Tennessee. Adam St. Arnold, Rachel St. Arnold, Katie Manz of South Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Cierra Sporleder of South Carolina.

George is also survived by a brother, Geno from Tucson Arizona, and 2 sister, MaryAnn Schiltz, and Betty (Al) Doemel, of Green Bay Wisconsin, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Seth and Elizabeth (Gallenberg) Sporleder, 2 brothers, Paul and David of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a son, Gary of Tucson, Arizona.
George was known far and wide for his Genius at detecting and diagnosing any critical mechanical problems and for his love of restoring old cars.
He will be most remembered in the motorcycle drag racing community as being the inventor of the rear engine drag bike, known as the "Infinity." George took car engines and modified the design to create the ultimate racing machine, exceeding speeds of 400mph in a quarter mile at the drag strip. He acquired the name George after George Barris, after all the fiberglass bodies he designed for his vehicles.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at the Ontonagon United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 10:00am and the service will be at 11:00am with a luncheon to follow in the lower level of the church. District Superintendent Rev Grant Lobb, and Rev Paul Sewell will be officiating. A memorial fund has been established with Cane Funeral home who will be handling all the arrangments.
