Sharon J. Nies, age 81, beloved mother, wife, sister and caregiver of Ontonagon, MI, passed away after battling a lengthy illness on August 18, 2022 at her home with her family by her side.

Sharon was born in Negaunee, MI, to the proud parents, Donald and Miriam Kujanen on July 12, 1941. She went to school in Republic, MI, and graduated in 1959. Sharon then attended and graduated from Augustana nursing school in Chicago, IL. Sharon found the love of her life and married Joseph M. Nies on September 22, 1962, in Republic, MI.

Sharon worked as an RN in numerous hospitals until she and her family returned to the U.P. and finally settled in Ontonagon, MI, in 1969. Sharon worked over 30 years as an RN at Ontonagon Memorial Hospital until she retired in 2007.

Sharon is survived by her daughter Suzanne Manninen (husband Michael); son Earl Nies: brother Donald Kujanen (wife Jan); sister Sandra Doroni (husband John) and grandchildren Lauren, Lainey, and Matthew Manninen.

Sharon is preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph M. Nies, parents Donald and Miriam Kujanen, and grandparents.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 10, 11:00 am, at Cane Funeral Home, Ontonagon, Mi, with Father Michael Jacobus officiating. Private family burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery Ontonagon, MI. Luncheon will follow the memorial service and private family burial at Siloa Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be given to OCAP (Ontonagon County Animal Protection) or Ontonagon County Cancer Association.
